Cloudy Dishes – Water Softener Issues

Yes, we have the hardest water in the country here in central Indiana and if you don’t have a water softener, you know that better than anyone!

I do have a solution to get rid of the white “cloud” on your drinking glasses, silverware, shower head, etc.  It’s regular White Vinegar.

All you do is fill your sink with warm water and pour in some white vinegar (about 4 parts water to 1 part vinegar…..more vinegar if your dishes are really cloudy) and then put your silverware in the bottom of the sink and then your glasses on top of that.  Make sure the water fully covers the dishes.  Then, let them soak for about 10 minutes.  After that, wash them with regular dish soap, (scrub a little if necessary), rinse and you will feel like you have NEW dishes!!

For your shower head, just take it off and let it soak in the sink for about 10 minutes.  When you put it back on, you’ll be amazed at the full stream of water!

Here are some tips to reduce the “clouds”:

  • Make sure you have plenty of salt in your water softener salt tank
  • Make sure your water softener is in good working order and that it is regenerating properly
  • If you don’t have a water softener or water conditioner, I highly recommend getting one – the new “salt-less” systems (such as a Freije system), are GREAT! (Your plumbing mechanicals will thank you!)  Your Indianapolis, Fishers, Carmel, Noblesville, Zionsville and Geist Plumber, AttaBoy Plumbing Company can help you with that!

So there’s a nice little project for you this weekend.  With all the money you saved by not buying new dishes, you can go out to dinner and dirty someone ELSE’S dishes!
